Season of Giving
The holiday season is a special time of year. We know how easy it is to get so caught up in our routines that we forget to stop and take a moment to reflect upon and appreciate all that we have.
At La Petite Baleen, we appreciate our customers for making a commitment to their child’s safety and well-being. Learning to swim is the single-most important life skill a person can undertake, and the responsibility of teaching your children is not something we take lightly. In fact, we believe it is so important for children to learn to swim that we give away thousands of lessons each year - more than 8,700 free splash & dash (drop-in) lessons this year alone!
Additionally, we have provided 1,400 free lessons to infants under 6 months old, and nearly another 500 free splash & dash infant lessons. We believe in getting kids started with lessons as soon as possible, and the infant promotion allows us to do just that. We also have a scholarship program at each of our schools to help families who couldn’t otherwise afford lessons. In 2016, we awarded 92 scholarships.
Still, we understand the importance of reaching out to our communities beyond the pool deck, too. This year alone, La Petite Baleen provided donations for more than 125 fundraising events. In September, we donated for each Gold Ribbon earned to Juliana’s Journey, a local foundation raising awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. And in winters past, we have organized drives to bring in a variety of donatable goods to local families and organizations. This year, we are proud to partner with local food banks to collect canned and nonperishable goods for the families they serve.
Each LPB school currently has donation bins set out to support the following food banks:
Half Moon Bay - Coastside Hope
San Bruno - Hospitality House
San Francisco - SF-Marin Food Bank
Atherton - Second Harvest Food Bank
This year, we’ll be hosting our first-ever food-drive sponsored Family Swim event, where we will provide crafts and treats for swimmers who bring in a donation.
Our San Francisco location is also holding a donation drive for La Casa De Las Madres, a local organization that provides support to survivors of domestic violence. Check out the display in our viewing room for specific information on what we can accept.
Finally, though it really isn't related to the above, we have had many customers ask for a direct way to connect with each school. We're happy to now have direct lines to each school's front desk. These numbers should be used for general questions including: hours of operation, directions, lost and found, running late to class, etc.
Please still use 866-896-3603 to book/change classes, book splash & dash lessons, etc. Following this system will help more people to connect with those who can help them best.
