AAP SWIMMING LESSON GUIDELINES

Read MoreYou may have noticed signs around our schools advertising free lessons for certain level students. What are those about?
La Petite Baleen’s teacher training program is incredibly robust. Our new hires spend about 40 hours team-teaching with senior staff members and in classroom clinics learning the ins and outs of our curriculum.
(While many other swim schools and pool facilities depend on the Red Cross’s Water Safety Instruction, La Petite Baleen Swim Schools utilizes its own proprietary curriculum, which is steeped in child development.)
After their initial training, teachers are required to continue their education by attending extended training workshops to ensure that they are providing the best possible lessons to our students. Workshops vary by topic, usually covering each of our swim levels as well as other topics relating to child development and how that relates to our curriculum mantra: pace, pattern, compassion and fun.
So what about those free lessons?
Our workshops come in a variety of formats: some are classroom discussions and roundtables while others have teachers in the pool with an advanced teacher and volunteer students to provide the ultimate hands-on learning experience. Those in-water workshops are when we typically need students to participate, which means a free extra lesson for them.
If you’re interested in some additional swim time, check for signage at your school or ask one of our pod members if there are workshops in need of participants.
We believe that every day brings an opportunity to learn more about the work that we do and we know that staff, students, and parents all benefit from our teachers continuing their education and striving for excellence.
